Transfer Admission Requirements

High School / GED Requirement:

  • Transfer students must be graduates of a regionally accredited high school or have completed the equivalent academic training (GED).
  • An official high school transcript is required for all transfer students to review the high school academic record and for verification of Nebraska residency for tuition purposes (applicable to Nebraska high school graduates).
  • Transcript Request Form

If you are transferring from a two-year community college:

  • Students transferring from a two-year community college in Nebraska can participate in the On Course program.
  • Sixty-four semester credit hours is the maximum allowed for transfer to most undergraduate UNO colleges from regionally accredited two-year colleges. The College of Engineering and the College of Education and Human Sciences will allow a maximum of 66 semester hours from a two-year institution.

If you are participating in the On Course Program (a Nebraska community college transfer program):

Nebraska Community College students who want to continue their education can take advantage of a University of Nebraska program, “On Course,” to gain guaranteed admission to the university upon completion of their associate’s degree. Please note that participation in the On Course program is voluntary and transfer students who meet the admission requirements to UNO are not required to participate in this program.

If you are transferring less than 12 credit hours:

  • Students presenting fewer than 12 semester hours of transferable coursework from a regionally accredited collegiate institution following high school graduation will be required to meet the freshmen admission requirements for assured admission or under any ABR category that applies.
  • An official high school transcript and ACT or SAT results are required.
  • Transcript Request Form

If you are transferring 12 or more credit hours:

  • A transfer student who has successfully completed 12 or more transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited collegiate institution following high school graduation who is in good standing at their previous institution(s) will be expected to have met the freshman core course requirements, either in high school or in their previous post secondary studies, unless exempted per individual review.
  • Those who do not fully meet these requirements may still qualify for admission on the basis of special merit. The Admissions Office will determine how deficiencies in the prior record of these students will be made up. All applicants must meet the admissions requirements as set by the college to which they apply.

If you are within one year of academic probation or suspension:

  • Any student who has been placed on academic suspension or dismissal from any college or university within the last year, regardless of the student's eligibility to return to the prior institution, will be denied admission.
  • A student who is on academic probation but not suspension is eligible to apply for admission to UNO.
  • The student would be eligible to reapply for admission to UNO after one full year following the end of the last term in which the student was suspended.

Provisional Admittance:

  • Students provisionally admitted pending the receipt of all final official transcripts required for admission must certify they will meet the minimum admission criteria for the college/major to which they are admitted. The applicant's submission of the Undergraduate Application for Admission certifies that, to the best of their knowledge, they meet the minimum admission requirement for the college/major for which they have applied.
  • After all transfer credits are received and evaluated, if a student does not meet the minimum required grade point average for the college/major to which they applied/enrolled, their program of study will be changed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

If you send your transcripts and don't enroll:

  • Transcripts sent to the UNO Office of Undergraduate Admissions for students who do not enroll will be retained for one year. If the student applies for admission beyond that, new transcripts would need to be provided for admission consideration.

Note: Hand-carried / student-submitted credentials are not acceptable.

Transferring Credits

  • Transfer Credits:
    • Transfer Credits are initially screened by the Undergraduate Admissions Office. As soon as you have been officially admitted, your transfer records are forwarded to the dean of your college.
    • Usually those credits earned with a grade of "C-" or better from a regionally accredited institution may be applied toward a baccalaureate degree.
    • Credit applicable for one major may not necessarily apply toward another major. The responsibility for determining the manner in which transfer credit is applied toward degree requirements rests with each College.
  • Please have all credentials sent directly to:
    • University of Nebraska at Omaha
    • Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    • 6001 Dodge Street, EAB 103
    • Omaha, Nebraska 68182-0286
